According to the Uganda Biomass Resource Map, Uganda has an estimated 2.7 million hectares of forest and Woodland resources, which could potentially be used for biomass production. The majority of these resources are located in the central and eastern regions of the country.

The total estimated biomass potential from these resources is approximately 350 million tonnes. However, only a small fraction of this potential is currently being utilized. The main sources of biomass currently being used in Uganda are wood fuel and charcoal, which account for around 60% of the total.

The use of biomass for energy has a number of benefits for Uganda. It is a renewable resource that can be sustainably managed, and it can help to reduce Uganda’s reliance on imported fossil fuels. Biomass can also contribute to rural development and poverty alleviation, as it can provide a source of income for small-scale producers.
